The announcer gets on the mic. Check one, two… Introducing your Eastern Conference All-Star head coach Doc Rivers!
Yeah… somehow that’s actually happening.
Because Joe Mazzulla coached in the NBA All-Star game a year ago, that makes him ineligible to coach in it this year. Because Milwaukee is the two seed in the East, that means Doc Rivers is next in line. Rivers has coached the Bucks in exactly four games.
The All-Star game will take place February 18th and Rivers is pissed he has to coach it.
“It’s ridiculously bad. It really is,” Rivers said. “Well, Adrian’s going to get some money, that’s for sure. And a ring. It’s one of these quirky things. I think there should be a rule somehow that someone else does it, other than me. Maybe I’ll send my staff, and I’ll go on vacation.”
Griffin was fired at the end of January. Would Doc have waited a few days if he knew he had to coach the All-Star game? It is kinda funny when you think about it. Did anybody have Doc Rivers coaching the All-Star game on their bingo card back in January? It’s funny the way things turned out.
The NBA could easily send J. B. Bickerstaff there. Then again, he’s somehow a worse coach than Doc being there on short notice so maybe nevermind.
Side note: The ring comment was interesting. Did Doc Rivers just guarantee a Bucks championship? It sounds like he just did… didn’t he.
