Do The Red Sox Realize Fans Will Riot If Rafael Devers Isn’t Given A Contract Extension?

Red Sox fans were surprisingly understanding of when Mookie Betts left town. They knew Betts turned down monster dollars from Boston and he kinda wanted to be elsewhere anyway. Fans won’t be that understanding this time around if the same thing occurs with Rafael Devers. Nothing is more important than getting a contract extension done for the best third baseman in the world.

Xander Bogaerts may be the captain of the ship but Devers is the best young talent this organization has. There is nobody else like him. His defense has gone from bad to pretty damn good. Thus far on the season, Devers sports a batting line of .300/.357/.554 with an OPS+ of 150, 4.5 WAR, and 25 bombs. Devers is a top 10 talent in the sport and it’s just not a discussion.

Devers is one of the scariest hitters in baseball. It’s just impossible to get him out. Additionally, the Sox hot corner man is the best bad ball hitter in the sport. You can’t describe half the things Devers can do and that’s what makes him so special. Devers is a true aircraft carrier in every sense of the word.

A lot of these extensions are getting done with Boston just sitting on the sidelines. Julio Rodriguez just signed a massive extension and he’s a rookie. Austin Riley and Michael Harris also got deals signed midseason. There are no excuses for this to not get done.

The good news is Buster Olney reported that Boston is preparing a Godfather offer for Devers. It’s hard to trust anything that comes from this Red Sox front office right now so I hope the report is accurate. Fans are getting restless and how can you blame them? Jarren Duran, Bobby Dalbec, Franchy Cordero… do I need to keep going? If the Josh Winckowski thing wasn’t a new low point, I don’t want to see rock bottom. That’s where this thing is headed if Devers isn’t kept.

Fans will riot. It won’t be like last time with Mookie Betts. Chaim Bloom will need to double his security outlet. Get Rafael Devers signed. Write the check and get it done. This front office does want to know what happens if they botch this. Heed the warning.
