DK Metcalf praises undrafted rookie Jake Bobo work ethic

Jake Bobo recently made his dreams come true by making the Seahawks 53-man roster. It’s an incredibly impressive achievement for an undrafted rookie and something you don’t see too often. But if you were to ask DK Metcalf, he would have told you Bobo had it coming.

Metcalf in fact gave Bobo the best compliment he can hear by admitting the undrafted rookie outworks him and motivates him to be better.

“Then I got up here and I’ve seen the way he ran routes and the way he practices, he practices hard — harder than me,” he said. “He’s more detailed than I ever will be, and I use that as motivation to practice harder and make sure I’m honing into more details because he’s doing all the little things right.”

Quote Via Pro Football Talk

Does Metcalf have a new little man crush? I wouldn’t blame you for thinking he did. But for Jake Bobo, this kind of praise is exactly what he needs–not too many people know about or ever hear about undrafted rookies.

Most fizzle out before they can ever become a known commodity; it’s a harsh reality but one that is true. If an undrafted rookie can get a superstar to praise you like this? Yeah, it’s got to feel pretty damn good.

For Bobo, this kind of praise could be the difference between him having a roster spot or not. The Seahawks currently have an abundance of receivers. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett form a great duo with rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba looking to make his mark in his first season.

It might be difficult to form a path within this loaded receiver room, especially if you are an undrafted rookie with almost no name recognition. But Jake Bobo took that sentiment and told you exactly where you can stick it.

He kept his head down, busted his ass and earned the recognition of his teammates, thereby earning a roster spot. I love hearing stories like this and will be rooting for Jake Bobo whenever I possibly can.

His story can serve as an inspiration for all of us. Do good work and bust your ass, somebody is going to notice at some point. Sometimes that’s all it takes for somebody. Remember the name Jake Bobo, if he ever breaks out you’ll be able to say you heard it here first.
