If you’re like me and are a casual college basketball viewer when the calendar strikes March, DJ Burns Jr has been a pretty easy guy to root for. I mean just look at him. If you’re not rooting for that guy, you may as well be sent to hell as the anti-Christ.
Okay, maybe that was too far. However, if you’re looking for reasons to root for Burns and the rest of the NC State team, add this to your list of reasons. NIL and the transfer portal have taken over college athletics. Burns has his own side hustle. It’s called owning vending machines.
“There’s a guy who played at Auburn named Josh Dollard,” Burns said. “He’s from the Charlotte area, and we used to train with this trainer named Gabe Blair. Phenomenal guy. I was just talking to him about some things I went through and we were just talking about, what are ways to make money outside of basketball so you’re not like one-dimensional as a person. That was one of the things he showed me and I took after it.”
“I’m gonna be honest, I can’t eat what’s in my vending machine,” Burns said. “But it sells well for sure.”
Burns, 23, also owns a clothing line after partnering with the Pack of Wolves NIL Collective. Burns isn’t just a hustler on the court. He’s making it splash off the court too.
I love this guy. Keep doing you, DJ.
