Discord Now Has PS5 Compatibility

In what is seemingly another aspect of the fallout of the Microsoft and Activision deal, Sony and Discord have come to an agreement to implement compatibility between the PlayStation 5 console and the social media site.

The deal, announced over Twitter by the company, is to be effective immediately, allowing users to connect immediately. However, the deal only covers PlayStation 5, with nothing being mentioned about PlayStation 4.

Why Now?

It’s no secret in the gaming industry right now that the two juggernauts, Microsoft and Sony, are gearing up over the former’s desire to acquire Activision. While there is little information about when and why this deal with Discord was reached, the fact that it’s being rolled out now is likely no coincidence. Still, more details are needed that just aren’t there yet.

For now, though, PlayStation and Discord getting compatibility opens the door for a lot of possibilities. We’ll just have to see what all those possibilities really are.
