Dion Dawkins Lobbies For An Offensive Lineman Of The Year Award

The casual NFL fans give quarterbacks all the credit if a team wins and all of the blame if a team loses. Then there are people that actually understand what’s going on and knows that the game is won within the trenches. It’s why Philadelphia is still playing despite having a knucklehead head coach (but that’s a story for another day). Offensive linemen are always criminally underrated and Dion Dawkins wants to change that.

The Bills starting left tackle wants the NFL to add an NFL Offensive Lineman of the Year award.

“Offensive linemen don’t have awards for being great,” Dawkins said. “There’s not a protector of the year award. I’m knocking at so many doors now to get this award going. I’m gonna spearhead it and make sure it gets done before I’m done playing. Because there’s so many greats, and we have great quarterbacks, we have great running backs, we have rushing titles, we have quarterback passing titles. All those titles are reflections on the o-linemen, which are the protectors.”

Seems like a great idea to me. Call it the John Madden Award and keep things moving.

By the way, they have these types of awards for college football. The award that Dawkins is recommended is the Outland Trophy in college football. The Rimington Trophy goes to the best center. The Joe Moore Award goes to the best overall offensive line.

If college football has enough self-awareness to do that… maybe the NFL should follow suit.
