The Miami Dolphins season did not end how many expected it to, as they missed out on the playoffs, finishing 8-9 on the year. Injuries played a massive part in their woes, especially quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who missed four games after suffering yet another concussion in his young career. However, the struggles are felt heavy on wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who may have hinted that he wants out after the game.
Full quote via NFL.com:
“”This is my first time I haven’t been in the playoffs,” Hill told reporters. “I just gotta do what’s best for me and my family. If that’s here or wherever the case may be, I’m finna open that door for myself. I’m opening the door. I’m out, bro.
“It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, bro, I got to do what’s best for my career. I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there.”
This is not the first time that Tyreek Hill has forced his way out of a situation, as contract disputes led to his trade from Kansas City to Miami in March of 2022. There’s no denying that Hill is a game-changer on offense with his blazing speed, but he will be 31 next season and possessing a $51.8 million cap hit, in a contract year nonetheless. I find it hard to believe there will be a large number of suitors wanting to take on that salary and extend Hill. That’s the kicker in all this. Whatever team trades for Hill HAS to extend him, it would be stupid not to.
It’s very possible that Tyreek Hill has played his last snap for the Miami Dolphins, which would create a number of other questions the franchise has to ask. Is Jaylen Waddle a true WR1? Are you sure that Tua is YOUR guy? Is Mike McDaniel the right guy to potentially lead a rebuild? The domino effect that could come from a Hill trade could be huge for the franchise. We will just have to keep an eye out on this ongoing situation.
