Did Milan Lucic Reveal Retirement Plans For Patrice Bergeron?

Did Milan Lucic accidentally let the cat out of the bag? Lucic is back in Boston and made some interesting comments that we maybe should read more into. We still have no idea if David Krejci and or Patrice Bergeron will return with the Bruins. Maybe Bruins’ fans should feel pessimistic about the chances that Bergeron and or Krejci return.

VIA Mass Live:

“I talked to Pasta and Marshy,” he said. “Those are the only two guys that I played with, that, that are still Bruins, that are still kicking around.”

Odd way to word that, right? Of course, Lucic played with Krejci and Bergeron for a number of years. All three were members of that 2011 Stanley Cup team with the Bruins. Lucic later departed in 2015. Maybe Lucic doesn’t have any inside information. However, it doesn’t sound like Lucic anticipates playing with Bergeron or Krejci this year.

Lucic, 35, is expected to play fourth line left winger this year for the Bruins. A role that Garnet Hathaway handled one year ago.

It would be an absolutely brutal loss for Boston if Bergeron and Krejci don’t return. I’m not sure how they expect to compete with the depth they currently have down the middle. Do they really plan to trot out Charlie Coyle as the number one center? 4th line center Thomas Nosek is a free agent as well. I have no idea how they replace them. Boston will likely take a MAJOR step back from the team that won 65 games a year ago.
