The Bears and Panthers play each other this week on Thursday Night Football. Chicago will get an up close and personal look at Bryce Young. The same man they passed on and eventually traded down instead. With the game on the horizon, Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy spoke glowingly of Bryce Young.
“Yeah, we were very impressed with him,” Getsy said, via Josh Schrock of NBCSportsChicago.com. “We were at his pro day, too, and very impressive. Accuracy was easy. That’s the thing that stood out for the kid is no matter [how far] it was down the field, under 20 yards or under 10 yards, the ability to get the ball out quick. He showed a lot of the cool things you’re looking for in a guy to be a natural passer.”
It hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for Young. During his rookie season, the Alabama product is completing 64% of his throws for 1,375 yards for eight touchdowns and seven interceptions in seven games. He also just threw two pick-sixes to Kenny Moore this past week.
Is Getsy being complimentary because he has to or did he maybe want the team to take Bryce Young? I guess we’ll never know but it’s worth pointing out that it doesn’t sound like Getsy is the biggest fan of Justin Fields. Well, I should say that he probably isn’t after Justin Fields threw the entire coaching staff under the bus earlier this year.
Maybe Getsy wanted the Bears to take Young? I guess we’ll never know for sure.
