The Colorado Rockies have never won the World Series. Forget about World Series, Colorado has never won the NL West. Rockies owner Dick Monfort says Colorado will NEVER tank. Instead of looking in the mirror and acknowledging that his method doesn’t work, he’s willing to go on a meaningless rant about how the Rockies won’t go the path the works.
“I hate that word,” Monfort said of ‘rebuilding,’ according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post. “I guess the connotation on rebuilding is you just get rid of everybody. … We’re not trying to get the first pick. We’re not going to tank. We never have, never will.”
“(Tanking) worked for the Cubs,” Monfort continued. “I mean, I think the Cubs really did do that. And the Astros. Kansas City, I don’t know if they were trying to do that or if they were just (bad) for a long period of time. … The problem is, now Kansas City’s not drawing anybody, right? If the (Royals) are on a rebuild, this is Year 8 of it. I don’t see our fans wanting to come to the games and say we’re gonna suck for eight years.”
This guy seems like a real winner. The Cubs, Astros, and Royals all won championships by tanking. Houston and Chicago lost over 100 games prior to landing guys like Kris Bryant, Kyle Schwarber, Carlos Correa, and Alex Bregman. Maybe someone should ask Monfort why he doesn’t care about winning. Refusing to lose is basically the same thing. In baseball, if you don’t wave the white flag when it’s time to wave the white flag, you suffer the consequences later. Hello Rockies!
Not too long ago, I put out a post about how I would run the Rockies. Yes, Unconventional, but are we sure it’s worse than what they have been doing? Food for thought. Give me a call, Dick Monfort. I’ll teach you how to actually win.
