Devon Achane: The Most Underrated RB In College Football Right Now

Remember the name Devon Achane. You have been warned. I’m not saying Achane is the best running back in college football. I’m not even saying Achane is a first rounder. However, I will say if this guy isn’t on your list, you’re doing it wrong. You have been warned.

Achane will get the starter reps for Texas A&M this year. Jimbo Fisher has been recruiting far too well for this program to not turn the corner sooner rather than later. Achane isn’t a monster recruit (although 4-stars is obviously very good) he’s just one of their athlete’s they have that hasn’t quite popped yet but you’re betting on him to do so. Achane is easily the most intriguing running back in the country but the high of what could happen is special.

I’m just telling you right now the speed is off the charts. That really doesn’t do it justice. When I say off the charts speed, I’m talking Chris Johnson fast. He’s that fast. That’s some MFer speed. That’s oh he’s a bit on the small side but I don’t see guys move like that list. Not a very long list but when you combine Achane’s football ability, those are the guys that make it.

Everything Achane did this past year was unbelievable. It was just in a short sample size and overshadowed by Isaiah Spiller. Achane notched 8.5 yards per carry on 43 attempts as a freshman. This past year the Aggies RB sat at seven yards per carry on 130 carries. If Achane has one more leap to climb, we’re going to be talking about something dangerous.

I love how many things this guy can do too. Elite speed with multiple traits. Can return kicks. Can catch the ball. Not afraid of running between the tackles. Pretty good at slipping tackles. Can he get 10 pounds bigger and maintain that speed and elusiveness? Do we have any idea what ceiling this dude has?

I have Achane listed 4th on my RB list for the 2023 NFL Draft. Trust me, that’s not an insult. It’s just impossible to rank him ahead of Bijan Robinson, Tank Bigsby, and Kendall Milton at this point without an idea of what Achane looks like as a featured back. The fact that I have him above Zach Evans tells you all you need to know. By the way, Evans could easily be first, he’s just a moron.

My eyes will be glued to the TV on Saturdays watching Devon Achane this year. He’s easily the most intriguing running back in college football and someone that could start to transform this Texas A&M program from good to legitimate contenders.
