Devils Hire Sheldon Keefe As New Head Coach
Sheldon Keefe was fired by the Leafs this offseason but it didn’t take him very long to find another gig. The Devils were in search of a new head coach after firing Lindy Ruff at the tail end of the season. New Jersey has decided they’re going to be the team that gives Keefe his second chance.
Keefe, 43, compiled a record of 212-97-40 with the Leafs. Good enough for a .622 points percentage. The downfall of Toronto was always the blue line and goaltending. The hilarious part is the Devils are kinda built the same way. Maybe that’s a good thing. Maybe that’s a bad thing. Keefe will now coach a team built around Jack Hughes, Jesper Bratt, and Nico Hischier.
“This is an exciting time, and I’m honored to be a member of the Devils’ organization,” Keefe said. “To have the chance to lead this young, dynamic team and to see the potential that can still be unlocked is all very attractive for me.”
Keefe also put this tweet out today regarding the news:
Time will obviously tell here. Is Keefe actually a good coach that was buried by dysfunction in Toronto or was he the guy holding them back? The problem is the Devils need to find a goalie or they might suck regardless of the switch behind the bench.
Feel free to comment below. Is Keefe the answer for New Jersey or will this prove to be a disastrous decision?
