Detroit Pistons and Bojan Bogdanovic Agree on 2-Year Extension
The Detroit Pistons and F Bojan Bogdanovic have agreed on a 2-year Extension worth 39.1 million dollars. This deal means Bogdanovic will be a Piston until the 2024-2025 season and will seemingly be a part of their rebuild. Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report on the news.
Bogdanovic who is 33 years old. Arrived to the Pistons via a preseason trade with the Jazz and was entering the final year of his contract that saw him earn 19.5 million dollars. Pistons General Manager Troy Weaver made it clear that he wanted to extend Bogdanovic and it seems that the time has now come.
And while Bojan clearly doesn’t match the timeline being set up in Detroit with the emergence of young stars like Cade Cunningham, Saddiq Bey, and even guys like Jaden Ivey or Jalen Duren. He should still be able to provide the Pistons with a reliable scoring option who can stretch the floor out.
While this year might not be the year of the Piston’s breakout season. In another year if some of their young guys take that next step and they bring in a couple of pieces this is a team that can make some serious noise. And in a situation like that, having a veteran like Bojan Bogdanovic could be the perfect move.
It’ll be interesting to see how this trade plays out. I could definitely understand the skepticism held by some in that this is a young team looking to develop some chemistry and that the money used here could have been better used elsewhere. But in a place like Detroit which has a very thin history of signing free agents. Securing someone who this year is averaging 23 Points and is a career 40% from the 3-point line could be a very beneficial move for a team looking to make news in the future.
