Derek Jeter Wants The Yankees To Trade For Juan Soto

The Padres are struggling and sit 43-47 at the All-Star break. For a team that sports the third highest payroll in baseball and sits in 4th place in the NL West standings, something has to happen here in San Diego. Is it time to sell off some pieces? If so, is Juan Soto actually available? If Soto is on the table, Derek Jeter wants to see his team trade for the slugging outfielder.

Jeter had this rant to say during a “trade you would like to see” segment during the All-Star break:

“I do believe the San Diego Padres could get hot and really make some waves in the National League West,” said Jeter, who was the Marlins co-owner and CEO in his time between Yankees player and FOX broadcaster.

“But if they don’t, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Yankees go out and get Juan Soto. You don’t know how long Judge is going to be out, they need some offense, I think it makes sense.”

There is just one thing that should be mentioned here. We have no idea how long Aaron Judge is going to be out for and if he’s gone, the Yankees are screwed. They may as well sell if Judge is out. New York sits 50-41 on the season and one game out of a wildcard spot. Adding Soto would certainly get New York back in the mix but there is no guarantee this Yankees team makes the playoffs even with him. We’re talking about a team that just fired their hitting coach in favor of Sean Casey while sporting the worst offense in baseball since Judge’s injury.

Soto, 24, is slashing .265/.419/.479 with 15 home runs during the 2023 MLB season. Soto is under team control through the 2024 season. I’m sure the Padres will want something similar to what they gave up to Washington. Are the Yankees willing to part with a monster package to land Soto?
