Derek Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders have agreed to terms on a three-year extension worth $121.5M, per Ian Rapoport. The longest-tenured quarterback in the AFC is staying in Vegas through the 2025 season.
The deal features $40.5 million per year in new money. The Raiders are committing to competing in the AFC West as the division continues to be an absolute arms race. Carr’s extension means he is set to earn $141.3 million over the next four years, with an annual average value of $35.325 million.
The Chargers, Chiefs, and Broncos have made some big moves this offseason. The Chargers brought in Khalil Mack from the Chicago Bears, and signed Sebastian Joseph-Day and JC Jackson in an attempt to fix a defense that struggled during Brandon Staley’s first season as a head coach. Although, I was against the Staley hire and as of now still am.
The Denver Broncos made waves and seemingly began the absolutely bananas offseason when they made a blockbuster deal with the Seattle Seahawks to acquire quarterback Russell Wilson. The Kansas City Chiefs then continued a crazy offseason by trading away wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins for a multitude of draft picks!
Then Las Vegas Raiders have thrown themselves in the middle of this arms race in more ways than one.
