Both the Spurs and the Pistons have underperformed starting this year. Because of this, both teams could be looking for a change of scenery. DeMar DeRozan has been a part of plenty of trade rumors already, like the Orlando Magic interest. According to Duncan Smith of Forbes, the Pistons could be looking at trying to trade for Demar DeRozan:
“A starting lineup featuring DeMar DeRozan could actually provide a reasonable amount of shooting, even though it’s basically a solved equation that he won’t expand his range,” Smith wrote. “Whether he starts alongside Luke Kennard, Langston Galloway, Tony Snell or even the blossoming Bruce Brown, that unit could find itself with at least two (if not three) perimeter threats. DeRozan’s ability to make tough baskets and get to the free-throw line would be a benefit when the Pistons find themselves in their typical scoring lulls. He could also play heavy minutes in one-starter-plus-bench lineups, although his fit with Derrick Rose isn’t great.”
The only problem with is: who the hell are the Pistons gonna trade back? You have to think, the Spurs are not gonna trade Demar DeRozan for just anything. Thinking for the Spurs, they won’t want Reggie Jackson. If they’re looking to keep Blake Griffin, and Andre Drummond, they’ll need to trade a bunch of pieces to make the trade work contract wise.
The best deal I could think of was DeMar DeRozan, Bryn Forbes, and Chimezie Metu for Tony Snell, Langston Galloway, Thon Maker, and Sekou Doumbouya. That’s not even including picks, which I am sure that the Spurs will be asking for on top of that. If the Pistons are really considering trading for DeMar DeRozan, something has got to give. The Spurs would really want Andre Drummond but that seems less likely as they want to keep their best players. But the deal proposed is a lot too. But as far as the DeMar DeRozan trade rumors go, the ball is in your court Detroit. Remember though, Gregg Popovich is as stubborn as they come. Good luck.
