DeMar DeRozan is butt hurt that the Raptors are in the NBA Finals. Shocking right? Coming from the same guy that flat out quit in the playoffs the year before. Today, DeRozan did an interview where he compared himself to a very strange reference.
“Honestly, I don’t think I even said this — I probably said it to my own inner circle — but if it wasn’t for all the years and groundwork that I did before then, none of them things would’ve been possible,” DeRozan told Bleacher Report in a video interview. “Yes, I fought, I sacrificed, I pushed the limits to where I had to be the sacrificial lamb.
“You just have to sit back and understand, like, you know, you are the reason so many things was even possible.”
This is a big improvement for DeRozan. Coming from the same guy that was shooting loyalty quotes from the clouds on social media, this is a big step in the right direction. Still no mention of how Kawhi Leonard is 1000x better than him, but that’s okay.
Another thing we should mention quick, what’s with the religion stuff? I don’t need DeMar throwing sacrificial lamb around. Use something else. It’s strange.
DeRozan averaged 21.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 6.2 assists in his first season with the Spurs. If DeRozan was so valuable, you would think that would be good enough to beat the Nuggets in the first round but that was not the case. I love Gregg Popovich but one of his dumbest decisions of all time was building a mid-range jump shooting team with DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge.
The 2019 NBA Finals between the Raptors and Warriors is currently tied one game apiece. The series will resume on Wednesday.
