Declan Rice Urges Arsenal Fans To Give Him Time

Arsenal’s record-signing Declan Rice has urged Arsenal fans to give him time and not judge him on his lofty transfer fee after two weeks.

Arsenal made headlines earlier this summer when it outlasted Manchester City in the race to sign Rice. However, to do so, the Gunners had to dish out a whopping £100 million ($131 million) plus £5 million ($6.5 million) club-record transfer fee in order to bring him to the club from West Ham.

This made the 24-year-old defensive midfielder the most expensive English player in history. While he is a very good player, this is a staggering fee. With a fee as high as this, there are also going to be very high expectations from Arsenal fans.

However, Rice is choosing to not let this affect his play despite the heavy expectations that are now resting heavily upon his shoulders.

“That’s a price tag that is now attached to me. I just try to play football and enjoy myself,” Rice said. “I don’t try to put any added pressure on me. Me being myself is what’s got me here. That isn’t going to change now I’m at Arsenal. I’m still going to do things that I’ve done that have got me to Arsenal.

He also urged Arsenal fans to give him more time before judging whether or not he is truly worth $131 million.

“At the end, judge me on the price tag then, don’t judge me after two or three weeks. Hopefully at the end, that’s why I’ve come to Arsenal because I want to be a success and I want this club to be a success.”

Rice is undoubtedly a good player who deserves time to adjust to a new team. He is still getting used to Mikel Arteta’s coaching style. It is going to take him more than a couple of weeks to adjust.

However, once he does, Arsenal is going to have a special player on their hands. If Rice lives up to his price tag, then Arsenal surely has to be considered as a title contender yet again.
