Are we sure Daniel Jones isn’t the long term answer at quarterback for the Giants? After New York declined Jones’ 5th year option, it would appear the former Duke signal caller isn’t in their long term plans. However, if you ask back up quarterback Davis Webb, giving up on Jones would be a massive mistake.
Webb recently spoke with the NY Post and detailed just how impressive Jones is behind the scenes:
“[Jones is] the hardest-working quarterback I’ve been around,” Webb said Thursday after organized team activities, via the New York Post. “He’s probably the smartest quarterback I’ve been around.”
“He has really good questions in meetings, takes really good notes, he’s always looking to improve, weight room, practice field, meeting room, he’s just all in, and it’s fun to have a teammate like that,” Webb said. “Cares that much and brings the most out of his teammates. He’s a dang good football player. I think he’s gonna have his best year.”
High praise. Keep in mind when Webb was drafted by the Giants originally, Eli Manning was the quarterback. Webb also played and started over Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech. He also spent some time with the Bills playing behind Josh Allen. Nope, it’s Daniel Jones who has blown Webb away the most.
If Jones has any shot to turn it around, you have to like his chances a lot more with Brian Daboll. The new Giants head coach is a very respectable offensive mind helping guide Alabama and Josh Allen to a lot of success. Jones has the necessary mobility for the position. If Daboll can actually progress Jones as a passer, maybe New York has a better season than we all anticipate.
Then again… It’s Daniel Jones. Are you buying this cheese?
PS: I’m still sad Davis Webb never made it. Truth be told, I still think he’s the best QB on the roster…
