David Njoku Hints At Requesting A Trade From The Browns

David Njoku was supposed to have a breakout season this year. Then he broke his wrist and has just been toiling away like the rest of the guys in Cleveland with the exception of Nick Chubb. During Njoku’s time on IR, bad blood has spoiled over. Njoku insists he has been ready to come back. The team felt it was better to shut him down for the year.

Njoku had some feisty comments towards the organization when speaking to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. Don’t automatically bank on David Njoku being a Brown next year:

“That’s a good question,’’ Njoku told cleveland.com when asked if there’s a place for him here if Kitchens remains. “I don’t want to answer that yet. I’m not sure, so no comment.’’

The most jarring part of the video is when the reporter asks Njoku about his future if Freddie Kitchens returns. His laugh says it all. The Browns tight end absolutely insinuates that if Kitchens is back, Njoku wants out. He’s not the only one that has rubbed the wrong way by Kitchens.

There are also reports that Kitchens could actually be back as crazy as that sounds. It would be a tough look for John Dorsey if he were to fire Kitchens after hiring him just a year ago. Dorsey needs more W’s not more L’s.

As for Njoku, this is one of the most promising tight ends in the NFL. Cleveland selected the former Miami star in the first round in the 2017 NFL Draft. Njoku caught 56 passes for 639 yards and four TDs in 2018. 2019 was supposed to be that next leap. Maybe that leaps comes in another uniform in 2020. A trade request looks possible given the way that interviewed transpired.
