Dave Portnoy is officially banned from speaking about combat sports. To use his line that I will use in a reference later, “his words, not mine”. Tommy Fury beat Jake Paul today and the consequences of that decision exposed Portnoy for being completely uneducated about combat sports.
To catch you up to speed, Portnoy called out Fury over and over again for not being a real boxer. He thought Jake Paul was going to absolutely slaughter him again. Beat up to the point where Fury was in this for the money and didn’t really care about the result. It was disrespectful.
In a surprising turn of events that many likely didn’t see coming, Portnoy actually apologized for his actions. The Barstool Sports founder put out a statement in a nice wrapped Twitter video.
If it wasn’t obvious already then it is now. Portnoy simply cannot be taken seriously when talking about anything Boxing or MMA related. Neither can the company he founded either. Still, it was good to see him actually do the right thing for once when proven wrong. That’s usually not his mantra.
Somehow Portnoy’s Sunday of being embarrassed for knowing nothing about sports somehow got worse as the day progressed.
But wait… there’s more!
Everything thing the guy touched went to mush on Sunday. Trash talked LeBron and the Lakers while trailing big to the Mavericks. Immediately come back and win in a game they looked totally done. Couldn’t make it up if you tried.
Portnoy made a fool of himself today. If you needed any more evidence that Barstool will soon represent the past, the signs are certainly up to something, huh?
