We’re back with another Daubert’s 2021 NFL Draft Mailbag. I’m happy with the turn out for these blogs. We’re getting a lot of questions which I’m thrilled about. Let’s waste no time and get right into it.
I think the answer is probably 5. Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, Trey Lance, and Mac Jones. If anybody else gets drafted in the first round it becomes laughable.
……
Now this is a question and a half. Scott coming from the clouds essentially asking me to do a 32 team mock draft based on my own player grades. I like it but for the sake of the mailbag, I’ll just do a quick top 10.
1: Jaguars – Trevor Lawrence
2: Jets – Wouldn’t accept the job. Joe Douglas has signed a death wish. I guess Justin Fields.
3: Dolphins – Penei Sewell
4: Falcons – Kyle Pitts
5: Bengals – Patrick Surtain
6: Eagles – Zach Wilson
7: Lions – Trey Lance (My answer could change. I still need to actually watch Lance). From the American Idol test, he looks talented.
8: Panthers – Ja’Marr Chase
9: Broncos – Micah Parsons
10: Cowboys – Jaylen Waddle. Would then trade Michael Gallup. Waddle is the best player on the board. Just the way the cookie crumbles.
If the quarterbacks go on a run like what’s being reported, it’s hard to give an exact answer. The offensive tackles are usually the position that gets pushed up the board on draft day. Once they’re gone, they’re gone. Someone like Dillon Radunz and others could go in the first round when no one is projecting them to go that high.
Davis Mills at Stanford would probably be the answer. When I say probably I mean I’ve barely seen the guy play. Some my fault and some not. Mills was hurt a lot in college. However, he was a big time recruit and has shown an ability to be dangerously accurate. I don’t think he’s a terrible athlete either.
My favorite REAL late round gem is Zac Thomas. I’m not even saying that cause we interviewed him. Watch the 2018 App State game against Penn State. Thomas not only can play but he was light years ahead of Trace McSorley as a freshman. He’s a very good athlete too. We got something here.
A: I wouldn’t be so sure about the Drew Lock part. Fun fact – Lock has had six different offensive coordinators in six seasons. You try succeeding with that much turnover. Can we please be patient with these young quarterbacks? Shit, Drew Brees would have been forced to retire when he was with the Chargers if he played today.
Lock has talent. His problems are all mental. A lot that stems from a lack of coaching. Can you win a Super Bowl with him? Probably not, but very unfair to just rule that he can’t play right now.
Should the Broncos trade up for a quarterback? I guess it depends on the cost. Denver is one of those teams, I just don’t quite get their direction. How far are you getting with Vic Fangio as the head coach? This team just bores me to death right now. I’d probably just stand pat and take the best player on the board and roll with Lock for one more year. If one of the quarterbacks drops to 9 we cross that bridge when we get there.
As much as I believe I’m the smartest draft expert out there, I don’t have a crystal ball when it comes to trades. Let’s just got with 4 and I’ll throw out some fun but possible trades that I’d like to see happen.
Washington moves up for a quarterback? I refuse to believe the plan is Ryan Fitzpatrick and no rookie on the roster.
Indianapolis moves up for a pass catcher to help Carson Wentz?
Baltimore trades down. That’s just always a good bet to take.
I still think Carolina does something. I’m not sure what but I think they’re itching to make a splash.
