Daubert’s 2020 NFL Draft Mailbag 4.0

2020 NFL Draft

2020 NFL Draft
It’s mailbag time! Daubert’s 2020 NFL Draft mailbag returns with version 4.0. We answer your questions on the draft here!

Every week leading up to the 2020 NFL Draft, I will answer your questions. The NFL Draft is always a polarizing topic. The traditional media talks about the same topic 5 months in a row so I wanted to dive deeper. Whatever you want to know, I’ll answer your questions. Let’s get started. Daubert’s 2020 NFL Draft mailbag 4.0 coming in hot.

2 questions this week!

“Which team do you see having the draft capital move up to take a quarterback such as Tua, Herbert, or Love and what spot do you feel they will move into.”

The more I think about it, the less I think Miami will move up to get their quarterback. They traded away so many players to have multiple picks. Are they going to give them away just to move up 2 spots when they have so many holes to fill? It’s a bad roster and they may feel if they don’t get the guy they want, they might have a top 2 pick next year anyway.

My picks are under the radar but I’m going with Carolina and Las Vegas. Everybody seems to be mocking a defensive player to the Panthers. Why? Cam Newton has lost each of his last 8 starts and has a career completion percentage under 60. We also don’t know if he’s even healthy. Wouldn’t Matt Rhule want to start his program out with his guy to build around? I think the Panthers are the team quietly on the hunt for Tua. Build that college spread offense with Joe Brady and Tua. Getting from 7 to 3 or 4 in front of Miami and shouldn’t be too far of a fall for the team that trades down either.

The Raiders have two first round picks. They will find a way to come out of the draft with Jordan Love. Jon Gruden wants his Patrick Mahomes or at least wants to gamble on his version. After the Chargers pick at 6, I think Gruden gets his guy in the 8-10 range.

Nothing like twisting the knife. Watching another season of Lamar Jackson where the team has absolutely no chance to be a real contender. Hopefully, only 3 more years to go. If I’m running the Ravens, I offer Lamar Jackson to Washington for the number two pick straight up. They would probably take it too but we know that won’t happen.

I’m guessing Baltimore will go linebacker. They still haven’t replaced CJ Mosley. Baltimore still has no real plan at their linebacker spot. Patrick Queen or Kenneth Murray makes a lot of sense at 28 if either are on the board. I think that’s what they will try to do.

Personally, I’d go with Grant Delpit. It’s hard to know who will be there at 28. However, imagine that coverage unit with Delpit and Earl Thomas at the safety spot with Marlon Humphrey, Marcus Peters, and Jimmy Smith (if they re-sign him).

Now it’s time for my rant at the end of the post. Justin Herbert vs Jordan Love. Truth be told, I’d be scared to death to take either one of them. I don’t my want reputation attached to either. That’s just my two cents on it.

Both have alarming red flags. Both are boom or bust prospects. Justin Herbert seems like such a smart guy who has college production with solid tools. I can’t get certain game tapes of him out of my head. The Arizona State game made me want to vomit. Herbert never showed an ability to be more than a check down machine or be able to read a defense.

Jordan Love, on the other hand, makes horrendous decisions. He was much better in 2018 compared to 2019 but I blame Gary Anderson for that. Nobody is going to be super successful with Anderson as your coach. Hit feet are also a nightmare. He’s never going to be accurate. I think he’s a less talented version of Jameis Winston.

Long story short, I would pass on both. Give me Tua Tagovailoa all day. “But what if he’s not available”? I would never take a GM job if I didn’t have a pick to get the quarterback I wanted without trading for it. Not a relevant question.
