It turns out that not all wide receivers are delusional head cases. Apparently, Darnell Mooney is an exception to the rule. The Falcons have a good one.
The former Tulane product was recently asked in an interview if it bothered him that he was just eight yards shy of his first 1,000 yard season. Mooney responded like a pro. He doesn’t care about stats. Just wants to win.
“I didn’t really come here for 1,000 yards,” Mooney said this week, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s D. Orlando Ledbetter. “I came here to win. So, for, you know, anybody that’s like creating that as a top tier for the receivers, that’s not what I came here to do. I came here to win games.”
Mooney, 27, hasn’t been on the right side of the winning scoreboard during his NFL career. Mooney watched the Bears go 24-43 during his tenure there. Then, the Falcons this past year went 8-9 this past year. I hate to be that guy, but if Mooney really wants to win, he needs to pick a new landing spot.
With that said, the undersized Falcons wide receiver appears optimistic about what Michael Penix can bring to the team heading into the 2025-26 NFL Season.
“He throws the ball very, very far,” Mooney said of Penix. “He has a strong arm. He can get it out whenever he needs to. Like, if it feels like he’s late, he won’t be late. He can get the ball there in time.”
