Darius Leonard Expected To Sign Massive Extension With Colts

Linebackers are getting paid today. Adam Schefter reported this afternoon that 49ers linebacker Fred Warner has signed a massive 5-year, $95 million extension with $40 million guaranteed, making Warner the highest-paid linebacker in the league. Shortly after, Schefter sent out another tweet saying that Darius Leonard is set to sign a four-year extension north of $19 million per year.

Leonard was taken in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft by the Colts and has been everything and more for Indianapolis. Leonard’s rookie year was nothing short of amazing, as he finished the season as a first-team all-pro and took home the Defensive Rookie of the Year award. Leonard led the league in combined tackles as a rookie with 163 and was third in solo tackles with 93.

Darius Leonard followed his rookie year with a top-20 finish in tackles despite missing three games. Leonard had another elite season in 2020 where he retained his first-team all-pro title and finished in the top ten in tackles.

Leonard is the face and leader of this Colts’ defense. Not only is he an elite talent, but he is also dedicated to his craft and has the desire and will to be the best. Leonard’s quote to potential free agents joining the Colts this offseason illustrates all you need to know about the Colts star linebacker.

Warner and Leonard are regarded as two of the best linebackers in the league and today, they both got what they deserve: massive extensions.
