Danny Ainge > Brad Stevens. Example number 872. While the Celtics are here crying poor during the middle of a championship window, the Jazz are scooping up an intriguing young player who got left behind for reasons that are criminal.
The Celtics dumped the former Tennessee product to save money on the luxury tax. Danny Ainge and the Jazz will say thank you. Springer and the Jazz have agreed to a three year contract for dirt cheap money.
Utah announced the news via Press Release:
“The Utah Jazz have signed guard Jaden Springer to a multi-year contract. Per team policy, the terms of the deal were not released. Springer originally signed a 10-day contract with Utah on Feb. 20.”
Springer, 22, has averaged 3.5 points, 1.3 assists and 0.8 steals in 8.8 minutes per night during a really small sample size during the 10-day contract he first signed. Then again, for Springer, it’s really about the other side of things that gives him value. He started to gain a reputation for being a really plus defender. It’s a matter of getting the offense to grow. If and when that happens, Utah should have a nice little bench piece here for a cheap price.
Also, I don’t really know what the Rockets were doing here. A defensive point guard who can grow with their young core sounds like exactly what they need but they waived him right after the trade with Boston. Didn’t even give him a trial run with the team. Not sure that’s the right approach but whatever.
