Sports Media
Before I begin, I just want people to know that rational Trey is very much here today. I know the cupcake lady and others (we’ll get to her later) were asking about my mental health. They should know that I’m doing great. We got amazing news today here at Vendetta Sports Media and am very confident we will war that is to come. Trey is confident we here at VSM have mastered the non-obvious and the sports media landscape will soon shift for the better. There are many victories to come on the horizon. We’re going to talk about Jaden Springer today because this conversation really needs to be had.
The Celtics are so stupid for trading Jaden Springer and the entire fan base should be disgusted by the way they are acting. Right now the fan base has a loser mentality and I just thought Boston was better than that. That the most historic franchise in the NBA was better than being content with being in cruise control. Red Auerbach would be ashamed of the way the franchise is acting because the truth of the matter is…
Today was not about executing the standard of excellence in terms of being totally committed to winning. Today was about saving the owner money because they’re crying poor about paying the luxury tax. When you just won a title and are generating revenue from being in the playoffs over and over again, I don’t want to hear it. If you want to complain about the tax for a team that doesn’t have a prayer of winning a championship, no reasonable person disagrees with the owner not wanting to pay for average. This Celtics team isn’t average. Their KD-Warriors good and if the person in charge isn’t doing everything to represent the standard of excellence of the Boston Celtics, that person should not be in charge.
Brad Stevens.
You’ve crowned this man like he’s a god. I just see a nerd who constantly proves he has a clam between his legs when the going gets tough. Today Brad Stevens took the path of least resistance. His job is the make the Celtics better and he took the easy way out. Greedy owner wants to make sure he keeps every last dollar on his way out before selling the team. Ownership has shown its hand. They want out and don’t want to pay anymore. Your job is to make them care, Brad, and you failed. Your job is to convince ownership to spend money because you need x, y, and z to win this city another championship that the kids in Boston who don’t have a great life growing up have hope that one day it will get better. Because no matter what, the athletes that these kids look up to set the standard for the next generation.
When people tell you who they are, believe them. The Celtics don’t have the eye of the tiger right now. They’re content with being in cruise control. That this team is so good we can just turn the light switch on when it matters. This team doesn’t have that same hunger this year. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be a No. 2 seed right now. You saw the game tonight. Here is a quick box score if you didn’t. Did this seem like a team hungry tonight as they laid an egg against the Mavericks who set their team on fire while Anthony Davis didn’t suit up?
This team came out of the trade deadline flatter than could be. If you have balls you know why. Brad Stevens gave them no reason to give that extra effort for a loose ball tonight. Who cares about the regular season? We’re not trying to get better and are fine with being in cruise control at the top. If we lose to Dallas tonight, who cares? The Celtics saved money on the tax so let’s pass around cupcakes and pretend everything in the world is wonderful.
I just think it’s an embarrassing way to live as a human. The passing out cupcakes method doesn’t work. This city should know better. Bill Belichick was too hard on the players. Then they went to cupcake mode Jerod Mayo where we have to go to Dairy Queen after the game and collaborate so everyone’s opinion matters for some reason. Then the Patriots realized that method will never win in life and went back to Vrabel who has balls.
Brad Stevens doesn’t have balls. He did the wrong thing today and you can’t dispute it. Yell at me all you want but a court of law would find you guilty. Guilty of disasterclass of asset management.
Give up a draft pick to get Jaden Springer.
Give up a draft pick just to get rid of Jaden Springer.
This was a failed development story for a player that showed big-time promise this year. A player who competes and defends his tail off. The offense has gotten better. By the way, he won Boston the game against the Clippers earlier this year. Can’t argue it. Your one trade of the deadline was to give up on Springer while you replaced him with nothing.
Congratulations to Celtics ownership for being $15 million richer. Other than that, I have no idea what the Celtics accomplished during the trade deadline.
This is the problem with these nerds. C’mon, Celtics fans. You see it every single day with John Henry. The Red Sox could have Alex Bregman right now. They’re having an internal cival war over it right now because they don’t have one supreme commander who has enough balls to force the team into being aligned to do what’s right for the club. Craig Breslow doesn’t care that the team is way under the luxury tax. His chart tells him that Kristian Campbell is projected to have a 3.5 WAR season so he is blind to the fact that there is a huge need for a veteran right-handed bat in the lineup that could really push this team over the top. If the guy had any balls, Vlad Jr. would be on the team right now. He doesn’t have balls so here we are again.
There are people like Dave Dombrowski and then there are people like Chaim Bloom and Craig Breslow. One guy wins championships. Nerd mode only celebrates prospect rankings.
Brad Stevens is far more like Bloom and Breslow than Dombrowski and anybody willing to be honest about it knows it.
You crown this man.
For what?
Danny Ainge built this team and anyone who has any amount of IQ and respect for how this game knows it.
It was Ainge who made the insane move for Jayson Tatum.
It was Ainge who had the scouting eye to draft Jaylen Brown.
The core of the team starts there but it goes well beyond it.
It was Ainge who created the draft capital to go get Derrick White and everything else they did. You don’t get Porzingis if Ainge doesn’t draft Marcus Smart.
The lack of respect you show to the true architect of the Champion Celtics says everything about what’s going on right now.
Sure, Brad Stevens did a nice job but the cupcake lady could have guided this team to a championship. It would have been absolutely criminal to not have won a championship with the foundation that was set in place. I would argue if Stevens didn’t finish the job, he should belong in jail. People have been sent away for less.
What exactly has Stevens truly gotten right?
Name one draft pick the Celtics made with Stevens in charge that positively impacts the team in a winning way.
You can’t because that player doesn’t exist. Stevens the executive has been on the job since 2021. Since that draft, I’m going to give you the list of who could have been on the Celtics but Stevens gave the pick away because of nonsense.
2021: Alperen Şengün (pick dumped to OKC, who later traded it to Houston, for getting rid of Kemba Walker)
2022: Corey Kispert (who would be perfect for this team but understandable that pick was dumped in the Derrick White trade)
2023: Julian Strawther (Who would also be perfect for this team as a bench scorer but that pick was dumped in the idiotic Malcolm Brogdon trade, where they also incorrectly gave up on Aaron Nesmith)
Pretty sure that is a failing grade any way you slice it. I lose sleep over Şengün not being on the team. It’s okay, you people don’t care because you’re not intelligent enough to challenge the throne of lies this franchise is telling right now. Don’t worry, Celtics ownership probably would have traded Şengün anyway and said they didn’t want to pay the tax and fans would somehow understand.
That’s the problem with you people. Ownership is testing you right now. You should make a big deal out of this. Give them an inch, they will take a mile. Rafael Devers is still on the Red Sox because you people complained loud enough. If you were smart, you would do the same now before they tear this down by doing something REALLY stupid far sooner than when it would actually need to happen.
Side note: I still don’t get how nobody brings up how insane the Danilo Gallinari thing was but this fan base is really good at pretending things don’t happen, I guess.
The bottom line is the Celtics had opportunities to make this team better and they didn’t do it.
They had a chance to add Guershon Yabusele for essentially a minimum contract and passed because they decided to employ no one instead (which shouldn’t even be allowed legally CBA-wise but that is a story for another day. Imagine if an NFL team said we’re not employing a 53rd player to save the owner money. Fans would riot but somehow I am the bad guy today. Sorry, but also not sorry). If you did your job and watched the Olympics, would would have known that maybe adding a player who is better than Rudy Gobert probably could help this team.
Yabusele is another example of a failed development plan.
The Celtics draft Yabusele in the first round.
He’s not ready to play yet, so he stays in Europe for a bit.
When he’s ready for prime time, the Celtics decide they’re too cheap so he goes to rival Philadelphia instead and plays his tail off.
Why are the 76ers getting premium production by a player the Celtics drafted and failed to cash in the actual value for?
Isn’t that mistake by Philadelphia for giving up the draft rights for Tatum a vast majority why the Celtics have the upperhand? Shouldn’t making mistakes that favor Philadelphia be considered a slippery slope?
If you paid attention at all, Yabusele should be on this team. Instead, the Celtics decided to employ no one. A mistake that should be considered unforgivable.
The same thing happened with Lonnie Walker.
You’re not putting the best team on the floor. If you did, Jordan Walsh wouldn’t still be on the team.
The cupcake method is a disease. It spreads like a sickness. You saw the Celtics tonight. Do you see a team that has the eye of the tiger because I don’t. Yabusele’s return would have been that shot in the arm. Hell, go get Mark Williams or some other creative trade. Stevens didn’t even try to make this team better. Instead, he lit two draft picks on fire because of poor planning.
Stevens’ response today was filled with politics and lies. Thankfully for him, no one in the media will challenge their god so he gets away with this nonsense.
“Now you’re also playing the ‘Hey, if you don’t have this, you also have a young player that maybe you could go forward with when all those things happen,‘” Stevens said. “And it becomes less in your rotation, you know he’s a really capable player, and he can probably play really well in a rotation in the NBA.

“But also he’s not going to play in this particular circumstance and we have very limited opportunity to sign him after that. And so those are all factors that you have to consider. And it stinks that we have to do that with regard to him. But he’ll be okay because he’s a bulldog, he’s a good player.”
Let me get this straight. You lit two draft picks on fire to trade a “bulldog” and “good player” to get nothing in return because you have “a limited opportunity to sign him.”
You’re following this, right?
You do realize that’s a lie. The Celtics had RFA rights on Springer this summer. For a player who made $4 million this year and probably wasn’t getting any sort of raise from any competing team, what Stevens told you is that ownership told him to trim payroll and he took the path of least resistance. Had no interest in making the team better, which is the sole purpose of his job.
When people tell you who they are believe them. Stevens has already shown his hand. Are we really going to ignore the fact that Stevens was moved out as the coach because he wasn’t being hard enough on the players? That happened…
We here at VSM live by the way of the Chinese Farmer. Maybe the Celtics will still win the title. Maybe they won’t and will come up short by an inch that a guy like Yabusele would have made the difference in. All I know is this blog is already way too long and nothing needs to be said beyond what I said in this video right here.
Oh, and I did want to say one more thing. Cupcake lady rules. Credit to her for having more heart than Brad Stevens and being 7/8th funny. I’ll see you at the bake-off.
And Torrey Craig is a snoozefest. Nobody has ever cared about a single thing Torrey Craig has done in the league.
End of blog.
