Say what you want about Danny Ainge, he is normally a straight shooter. If you ask him a question, he normally is pretty honest. When he speaks, I listen. Today, Ainge did a big sit down interview with NBC Sports Boston. He answered a lot of questions about where the C’s sit as the trade deadline looms. Ainge is usually pretty honest. He called Kemba Walker the Celtics best player and there was no reason for him to do so.
I had a lot of takeaways from listening to him. Some of them I knew. Some of them I learned something.
A: He loves Gordon Hayward. If you’re smart, you should too. He’s not going anywhere.
B: It sounds like the number one priority is getting this team healthy. The Celtics have struggled with injuries for most of the year. They rarely have their full team out there. Nevertheless, they sit at 34-15. Every night it seems like they find a way to win. If Boston doesn’t make a move at the deadline, I wouldn’t be surprised.
C: If the Celtics do make a move, it will be to solidify the bench. It gave an interesting quote stating that he thinks the team may be too young. In the right deal, maybe that means giving up on someone like Romeo Langford or Carsen Edwards to improve the team now.
D: I’d be surprised if Ainge shakes up the center rotation. It sounds like he has a lot of confidence in the Enes Kanter and Daniel Theis group. Have to include Grant Williams in that group because he has been awesome as the small ball 5. All 3 of them have great defensive ratings too. Sounds like Ainge still has high hopes for Robert Williams too.
