Daniel Faalele Epitomizes Why The Ravens Team-Building Model Works

You’re only competing against eight teams, and it seems like the Ravens are usually one of the eight more often than they’re not. There’s a big reason why that’s the case. Baltimore is one of the few teams in the NFL that understands team-building, and the model they use isn’t a secret. The Ravens know who they are, and guys like Daniel Faalele epitomize their approach.

There is a clear identity in Baltimore.

Lean on the NFL Draft to supplement talent.

Excess roster players leave in free agency for higher dollars elsewhere.

Those same draft picks are developed and expected to replace the players who just walked out the door.

It’s where guys like Faalele and Andrew Vorhees enter the chat.

It’s essentially been confirmed that Faalele and Vorhees will take over the starting guard roles on a permanent basis this year. That’s after letting Patrick Makari leave. That’s after trading Morgan Moses last offseason. That’s after letting Ben Powers sign a big money deal with the Broncos.

Faalele and Vorhees will earn next to nothing after being middle round draft picks on their rookie contracts.

That’s been the model in Baltimore forever. This post still tracks. One guy leaves, the next draft pick replaces him, and does a better job anyway on less dollars. Baltimore gets it, and when you continue to churn out good drafts like having Malaki Starks fall in your laps, you get why the Ravens keep winning.

This is a player development and identity story. Not a Lamar Jackson story. In fact, I’d argue they would have already won the Super Bowl if they didn’t botch that decision to let Buffalo have Josh Allen instead. Here’s the best part. The work I’m doing with consigliere will soon prove it.

Side note: Do you want more of these team-building posts? These sorts of topics are fresh in my mind based on what’s happened, and happy to churn out more of them if you comment on a particular angle.
