Dana White silences rumors around a Ronda Rousey UFC return

Ronda Rousey was one of the first superstars of the UFC, reaching extreme levels of popularity and becoming a pillar of women’s MMA. Rousey has not fought in the UFC since she lost to Amanda Nunes in December 2016. However, that has not stopped MMA fans from wanting to see Rousey back in the octagon. Unfortunately, it appears this idea is of no interest to Dana White.

Rousey’s run with the WWE has concluded, so her future is uncertain. When asked about Rousey returning to the UFC, White gave a clear answer.

“There’s no shot,” Dana White said. “She’s accomplished everything she has set out to do.”

White has a pretty long track record of wanting fighters to retire sooner rather than later, as well as wanting fighters to stay retired. This response is true to form from White.

Rousey was 6-0 in the UFC before she was brutally knocked out in her last two fights. There is no real reason for her to come back because as White said, “she’s accomplished everything she has set out to do.” I’d go out on a limb and assume a lot of MMA fans do not want to see Rousey back in the octagon anyway.

However, she always seems to keep herself busy, whether that is the WWE or taking acting roles like playing Sonya Blade in Mortal Kombat 11. Ultimately, whatever Rousey decides to do next, it is safe to say it will not be in the UFC.

UFC Women’s Bantamweight History

Rousey was the bantamweight champion at the promotion Strikeforce before it was absorbed into the UFC. Rousey was then automatically made the first UFC women’s bantamweight champion. She defended the belt six times before she lost the belt to Holly Holm in 2015. Eventually, the belt would land in the hands of Nunes after she defeated Miesha Tate in 2016.

Nunes defended her belt five times before losing to Julianna Peña in December of 2021. However, Nunes, who is viewed as the women’s MMA G.O.A.T, got her belt back in July of 2022 when she defeated Peña in the rematch.

The women’s bantamweight division and women’s MMA, in general, are getting better every day. However, MMA fans will always remember the start of the division when Ronda Rousey was on her amazing run.
