Damian Lillard has been a loyal soldier in Portland but his patience is wearing thin. Terry Stotts deserved to be fired but apparently, Lillard is not happy with Chauncey Billups becoming the next man in charge. Well, I should say he was cool with it before he found out about Billups’ 1997 sexual assault case. The fuse appears to be running out.
Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports dropped a bombshell. Are the Blazers pushing Dame out the door?
“The enormous backlash from the Portland Trail Blazers’ process to hire a new coach and his concerns on whether a championship contender can be built have become factors that may push the franchise player — Damian Lillard — out the door, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Lillard has remained loyal to Portland in large part due to the tremendous fan base. But over the last few days, he’s seen some of those same fans attacking him on social media for a pending coaching hire he played no part in consummating, sources said.
Let’s be honest; the Trail Blazers are not winning a title. CJ McCollum is fine but he’s not close to good enough to be the number two on a championship team. Well… he’s too inconsistent to be that is what I should say. Lillard is no spring chicken anymore either. Dame is set to 31 in July so if there was ever time to make a move, it’s now.
Lillard is under contract for three more years but then again, it’s the NBA. Players find a way to move when they want to move on. It remains to be seen which teams will be in a position to make a move for Lillard if he does decided to request a trade. The only thing we know is if Lillard pulls the trigger on that decision, loyalty in the NBA is forever dead. Guess what… nobody can blame him.
