If you thought Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy was in danger of losing his job, Dak Prescott would laugh in your face.
Prescott has come to the defense of his coach, calling any speculation about McCarthy being on the hot seat “comical.”
This comes after reporters asked Prescott if McCarthy would be fired if he lost to the Bucs in the wild-card round on Monday.
“It’s comical, in a sense,” Prescott said, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer. “First, what back-to-back 12-win (seasons) in y’all tell me how long, and we’re talking about a guy’s job in jeopardy? That just shows you, when you play for this organization, what comes with it.”

Since McCarthy has joined the Cowboys in 2020, they have a 30-20 record. In 2020, Prescott got injured early in the season and the Cowboys subsequently went 6-10.
Prescott does have a point, though I don’t think McCarthy is a good coach. Still, the team has secured 12 wins in back-to-back seasons — usually a coach doesn’t get fired after those two seasons.
McCarthy also has Prescott’s back, too. TheScore also reported that Jerry Jones said McCarthy’s job would be safe regardless of the outcome of the Bucs-Cowboys game.
“No. That’s it,” Jones said told 105.3 The Fan when asked Tuesday whether a loss to the Bucs could impact McCarthy’s status. “I don’t need to go into all the pluses or minuses, but I’ve got a lot more to evaluate Mike McCarthy on than this playoff game.
“I can’t tell you how much confidence I’ve got in Mike and our coaching staff,” Jones said. “They’ve got every nuance. They understand every frailty that we might have or we might have shown Sunday night (in a 26-6 loss to the Washington Commanders). They’ve got everything in their grasp and in their understanding, and I have complete confidence in this coaching staff.”

If you’re a Cowboys fan hoping that McCarthy would be gone after this year, bad news for you. Prescott and Jones have both come to the defense of McCarthy, meaning he won’t be fired after the 2022 season.
Although I can see why the reporters asked Dak Prescott the question if Mike McCarthy would be fired. As mentioned, I don’t think he’s a good coach, but also, the Cowboys are known for choking in the playoffs. So much so that most people think that an 8-9 team will beat them. How many more playoff chances will be blown before McCarthy gets fired? Well, looks like we will just have to wait and see.
