The Cowboys and Panthers have essentially made a trade in the middle of free agency. It’s not an official trade… more so a swap that may as well be a trade. Rico Dowdle is leaving the Cowboys for the Panthers. Miles Sanders is leaving the Panthers for the Cowboys.
See what I mean?
Anywho, Sanders is signing a one-year deal with Dallas.
“Free agent running back Miles Sanders plans to sign a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys, sources told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Thursday night.”
Given that Sanders was released by the Panthers, the one-year agreement isn’t going to be for premium dollars. It’s much closer to minimum salary than anything drastic. The financial side hasn’t been released yet but it’s probably slightly less than the $3 million that Javonte Williams signed for.
Two more things from me before I close.
A: Does this mean the Cowboys are less likely to draft a running back now? Maybe?
In theory, one of these comeback stories has to hit, right? It’s Jerry Jones so maybe this doesn’t change anything but if you’re trying to connect the dots, maybe this means Dallas will still draft a running back. It’s just not going to be in the first round. Probably sometime later in the draft to round things out.
B: Is there any gas left in the tank here? Sanders, 27, rushed for only 637 yards and three touchdowns in two seasons with Carolina. That’s not exactly awesome numbers…
Hey, at least maybe he gets a nice revenge game in against the Eagles?
