Cowboys Rookie LB DeMarvion Overshown Tears ACL
Stop playing important players in the preseason. I don’t know who needs to hear it but it continues to be insane that anybody of value plays in these meaningless games. The Cowboys are going to suffer the consequences of that. Dallas rookie linebacker DeMarvion Overshown has suffered a torn ACL in the Week 2 preseason game against Seattle. He’s, of course, now out for the season.
Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News was the first to report the news:
Undrafted rookie tight end John Stevens also tore his ACL for those who are interested.
Overshown, Dallas’ third round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, notched six tackles in the preseason opener. The Texas product notched three more against Seattle before going down. This is a player Dallas was really high on. Someone that could be that sideline to sideline rangy linebacker. Head coach Mike McCarthy was really excited about him.
“We talked about him seems like almost every other day,” Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy told reporters, according to Sports Illustrated’s Cowboys Country. “He was climbing the charts … Really has excellent command for a young player, young linebacker.
This news hurts. We just did the NFC East preview on The Lead Word. It felt like linebacker was the one advantage Dallas had over Philadelphia. I’m not sure that’s the case anymore without Overshown. Leighton Vander Esch is still there. Dallas is going to need big years out of Damone Clark, Devin Harper, and Jabril Cox. Both Clark and Cox are former LSU products with talent. Just more so unproven talent.
The good news is Dallas still has Micah Parsons. As long as he’s on the field, you feel pretty good about this defense.
