Cowboys Acquire Joe Milton Via Trade With Patriots

It turns out the answer to this question is yes. The only difference is that the Patriots took 5 cents on the dollar for the actual asking price they listed out in the media. Joe Milton is now a member of the Dallas Cowboys after the two sides agreed to a late round dinky pick swap.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the news:

Before I get into how stupid of a deal this is for the Patriots, the reasoning leaked to the media as to why they made this deal is beyond stupid.

VIA Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed:

“People who worked with Milton last season didn’t believe he would be an ideal backup quarterback for Drake Maye,” Kyed posted to X. “Milton sees himself as a potential starter and doesn’t have the league experience of a Jacoby Brissett or Joshua Dobbs. I don’t think Milton would have created issues, but it’s a new regime, and the Patriots were able to flip him for a higher pick.”

This trade is just so, so, so dumb by the Patriots. Credit to the Cowboys for getting this thing done. They lost Cooper Rush to the Ravens in free agency. They somehow upgrade their backup QB spot without having to give up anything for him. How the San Francisco 49ers got a 4th rounder for Trey Lance but the Patriots can’t get a real pick for Milton is mindblowing, but that’s Eliot Wolf for you.
