Trae Young is planting some seeds that he could force his way out of Atlanta. Could the Mavericks become players in an attempt to pair Luka Doncic with Trae Young? There may be more credence to that idea than you may think.
BetOnline released odds for the next landing spot of the Hawks’ point guard. The Mavericks have the best odds to land him.
What a twist and turn that would be. The two guys who were swapped on draft day would later become teammates. Now That’s a storyline. Maybe this is the way that it was supposed to be. We just don’t know it quite yet. Young teaming up with Doncic to build a winner where the two biggest usage guys in the league figure out a way to actually play together? What a team that would be to watch.
Using the trade machine, you will see that building a working trade around Young isn’t that difficult from a cap perspective. Spencer Dinwiddie, Tim Hardaway, and Davis Bertans all have large contracts. The Mavs cap sheet is spread out within the entire roster to the point where their 8th highest paid guy is still making $10 million. Theoretically, a trade could get done here. It’s a matter of the picks going back to make sure it somehow does.
I’m not sure a Young trade is around the corner or even on the table within the following year. What I do know is the Mavericks should be superstar hunting in order to build a better team around Doncic.
Side note: Why do the Celtics have the third best odds here?
