Major League Baseball handed out a MASSIVE punishment to Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer based on allegations of sexual misconduct back in April. From an outsider’s perspective, it seems as if the punishment fits the crime. From what I have seen on social media about it, there did not seem to be a major outcry over the severity of the punishment. So it got me wondering, could newly acquired Browns QB Deshaun Watson face a similar fate?
Let’s face it: Roger Goodell is a goof. He strikes me as a guy that doesn’t make decisions for himself and is a complete yes man. This situation Rod Manfred faced in MLB plays perfectly for the NFL Commissioner. The league has been meeting with Watson and his team in Texas recently, and there is expected to be some sort of punishment handed out. Will Goodell look to what happened with Bauer and hand out a suspension like in baseball? Watson’s lawyer certainly doesn’t see it that way.

“I’m going to try to be an optimist and say it will have no effect at all,” Hardin said. “Because it has no logical connection.”
I hate to be the one to tell him this, but there is a complete connection. How is it not logical? Both guys were facing down the same barrel. Logic aside, this is a public relations issue now. How could Goodell give out at least a year-long suspension, or more? If Watson gets 4-6 games and Bauer misses two whole years, that can’t look good for the NFL. The allegations might not be the exact same but there is enough to work off of there.
Remember the Ray Rice incident back in 2014? Goodell got HAMMERED for how he handled that because most people viewed that wasn’t nearly harsh enough. He was almost ran from the NFL as a whole because of it. I would think that any punishment handed down to Deshaun Watson will likely be viewed as “too much” because messing up on a thing like this twice will surely get Goodell canned.
Look, this isn’t me rooting for someone to get a specific suspension. All I am saying is that there is a real connection between these two incidents and I would not be surprised at all if we see a HUGE suspension handed down to Deshaun Watson. Because let’s be honest, Roger Goodell can’t afford another mistake in punishment.
