After firing Chaim Bloom, the Red Sox still have a hole at the top of their organization. We haven’t really heard many updates outside of the stupid Mike Hazen rumor. Is there a chance that Alex Cora could become promoted to lead the front office?
Don’t count on it… or maybe don’t count on it yet.
“I’m not ready to do that. If I felt like yeah, I think I can do that job, I’d probably tell them, ‘Hey, I would like to be part of the candidates.’ But I’m not ready for that,” Cora said, according to MassLive’s Christopher Smith.
I think the wording here is interesting. If you read the tea leaves, it seems obvious that the Red Sox passively suggested this to Cora. He feels he’s not ready to do the job… yet. Instead, Cora will be part of the interview process to find the next guy.
What about five years down the line? Could Cora transition to the front office while Jason Varitek takes over as the manager? I don’t think you can rule that out.
Cora, 47, owns a career 439-370 record as a manager with the Red Sox. He’s won a lot of games with less than ideal circumstances too with Bloom sabotaging the MLB side of things.
Side note: For those wondering, the Sox have not contacted me. I want the job and there is no question that I’m the best person for the job. It’s borderline insane they haven’t called me but whatever.
