Colorado Football Loses Multiple Commitments

After winning their first three games, which began by beating a nationally-ranked TCU team on the road to begin the 2023 season, Colorado Buffaloes Football was on top of the sports world. Every sports outlet was posting about them to the point where people were begging for it to stop.

Although it was annoying, Colorado rode those weeks of fame to perfection by making a lot of money and getting higher-ranked recruits to consider playing for Deion Sanders.

Three-star running back Jamarice Wilder, of the class of 2025, recently decommitted after only committing back in August; QB Antwann Hill Jr. (2025) and QB Danny O’Neil have also decommitted and the Buffaloes now have zero class of 2025 commits.

Losing Hill will be a gut punch, as he was the highest-ranked QB that Sanders had landed as a head coach. Sanders shared his thoughts on these recruits decommitting after their loss to Utah.

A kid ain’t even faithful to his girlfriend,” Sanders said. “You think he’s gonna be faithful to a school? Come on man. That’s an emotional thing.”

Getting Antwann Hill Jr. to recommit will be no easy task as he has big-time offers such as Alabama, Florida and Penn State. Despite so much interest from other schools, he hasn’t shut Colorado completely out yet.

Colorado is still a top priority for me,” Hill told ESPN. “I really just want to take the process slower and make sure I’m making the right decision for me and my family at the end of the day. I’m going to get back out there on the market and make the right decision.”

I think it will be hard for Colorado to get Hill Jr. to recommit. This program blew up so fast and I think some players got ahead of themselves. It’s easy to commit to Deion Sanders because of his background, but it was even easier when his program was in every headline for weeks. Players want to go to a school where their talent will shine, and for a few weeks, it seemed like there was no better place than Colorado.

I still think that Colorado will improve next year, but it will be a process that some people might not be patient with. Too many people expected a one-win team to turn around and make a big-time bowl game. These things take time, and Colorado will have to get crafty with their recruiting tactics in order to continue moving up in the college football world.
