We officially have our first major opt out as far as fantasy football is concerned. There are MAJOR implications to this next story. Damien Williams has opted out of the 2020 NFL season. There is only one takeaway. BUY ALL the Clyde Edwards-Helaire stock. CEH fantasy showing should be jumping for joy right now.
If you know me, I don’t do snake draft analysis. What I can tell you is that if Edwards-Helaire isn’t in your top 10, you’re crazy. Think about the circumstances here. Mahomes, Reid, and Hill create everything you want. A quarterback that can do everything. A head coach that has been known to utilize his backs in the screen game. A wide receiver that doesn’t let you crowd the box. A team that will constantly have leads. What more do you want?
I compared CEH to a Maurice Jones-Drew with pass catching ability. He was worthy of a late first round pick in my mind. Now he no longer has to split carries. Who has it better than Clyde? The possibility that Edwards-Helaire is the number one back in fantasy exists. I’m not saying it happens but it exists. Running back is the one position that players never really struggle with the NFL transition from college. They can either play right away or not at all. There’s no guessing period.
Damien Williams was a player that probably would have ate into the backfield work. Williams averaged 4.5 yards per carry last year and was a tank during the Super Bowl run. Boy, does Kansas City look brilliant for taking a running back in the first round because Darwin Thompson getting a full workload would have been a nightmare. Clyde Edwards-Helaire will be a fantasy hero.
