The Clippers Put On A Disaster-Class Of Asset Management With Paul George

Paul George is signing with the 76ers on the first full day of NBA Free Agency. I don’t know about anybody else but when this news dropped, I could only think about one thing. The Clippers put on a total disaster-class of asset management and it really needs to be talked about.

It wasn’t that long ago that the Clippers landed George. The Thunder traded George to the Clippers in 2017 for the most insane haul ever.

That trade was an L a long time ago. Shai alone makes it an L. One of those picks has also turned into Jalen Williams. That trade set up the Thunder for the team that they have since become. It’s hard to blame the Clippers for making the move to try to win a championship but this price that was paid is insane.

Obviously, George has aged since then but the Clippers had the chance to at least recoup some of those assets. The Clippers were deep in trade talks with the Warriors prior to George opting out of his deal. The Clippers could have at least recouped some of those assets. Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, picks, and Andrew Wiggins were all options to be recouped as assets. Instead, the teams couldn’t agree to terms and the Clippers will lose George for NOTHING.

If I was Steve Balmer, I think I would fire every single person in the front office. How do you let this happen? It’s inexcusable and there isn’t any other way to describe it.

What’s worse is now the Harden trade looks a total disaster. That deal now turns into Harden going to Clippers in exchange for George, a 2028 unprotected first-round pick, two second-round picks, a 2029 pick swap, and an additional first-round pick from the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Yikes…
