Class of ’22 Five-Star Mark Mitchell Commits to Duke

Class of 2022 five-star small forward Mark Mitchell has committed to Duke, per an announcement on CBS Sports HQ. Mitchell chose the Blue Devils over UCLA and Missouri, among other offers.

Mitchell (No. 15 in 247Sports Composite Rankings) is the fourth five-star commit of coach-in-waiting Jon Scheyer’s class, joining center Dereck Lively (No. 1), wing Dariq Whitehead (No. 4) and Kyle Filipowski (No. 11). Four-star shooting guard Jaden Schutt (No. 55) will also join Mitchell and company in Durham next Fall. The 6-8 forward’s commitment cements Duke at the top of the 2022 class rankings.

Mitchell on why he chose Duke

The Sunrise Christian (Kansas) star told 247Sports that his relationship with Scheyer and his prospective classmates was the deciding factor in choosing Duke.

“Him getting ready to be a first-time head coach, he really came in very genuine. He was focused on getting to know me as a person and I know that he knows what he’s talking about. He was a player at Duke, so you know he’s not just saying things he’s never done before, and I trust him because he has been there.”

“The relationship I have with those guys is great. Being able to go on a visit while Dariq, Kyle, Dereck and them were there it is something that really helped me. Being able to spend time with those guys I got to know them as people and that they aren’t just selfish guys, and we are all coming in there with the same goal to try and win. That can help us all reach our goals together and that was a big part in the decision.”
