Class of 2022 Five-Star Cason Wallace Commits to Kentucky

Class of ’22 five-star Cason Wallace has committed to Kentucky, per an announcement on his Instagram Live. Wallace chose the Wildcats over Tennessee, Texas and UTSA, among others.

Wallace will join fellow five-stars Shaedon Sharpe (No. 1 in 247Sports Composite), Chris Livingston (No. 6) and Skyy Clark (No. 17). The 6-4 combo guard was named The Circuit’s Most Valuable Player after averaging 15.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.6 assists during his run with Pro Skills on the Nike EYBL.

Wallace on why he chose Kentucky

Wallace told 247Sports that Kentucky’s NBA pedigree and the appeal of being a position-less player was too much to pass up.

“The coaching staff told me that I will be a position-less player. I would not be just a point guard or just a shooting guard. I would be whatever the team needs me to be and on the floor playing how I like to play.”

“The atmosphere and the history are what made me want to commit to Kentucky. They have a history of getting players to the league. So just going there and trying to be one of those players to make it is going to be good.”

The Tape

The Richardson, Texas native is one of, if not, the best two-way prospects in the 2022 class. Wallace will and wants to stifle you offensively, before turning right around and handing you 30 on any given night. He averaged 1.3 steals a game on the EYBL circuit this past summer. He is scrappy and keeps opponents in front of him when on the ball.

Calipari will be able to play Wallace all over the floor. He can play on and off the ball, and will likely have to do that alongside Sharpe and Clarke. Offensively, he is a very good three-point shooter, averaging 37% from distance on the circuit with Pro Skills. He can be a spot-up shooter or can go and get his own shot. Floor spacing shouldn’t be an issue for this Kentucky team with Wallace, Clarke and Sharpe all on the floor, with each offering scoring at all three levels.
