Cincinnati Bengals Extend Trey Hendrickson

The Cincinnati Bengals have signed defensive end Trey Hendrickson to a one-year deal through the 2025 season.

Hendrickson, 29, entered the upcoming season with a $15 million cap hit. His original deal went through the 2023 season with a cap hit of $17.5 million.

By extending him one more year, it gives the Bengals more cap flexibility for the future as they have several key players seeking contract extensions.

The Bengals rarely sign players into their 30s, but Hendrickson’s deal will cover him through his age-31 season.

Hendrickson easily outperformed his old four-year, $60 million deal. His production has surpassed or equaled the market value for defensive ends. The highest-paid edge rushers in the league are making around $25 million-plus per year while Hendrickson was sitting at $15 million.

The exact numbers of the deal haven’t been released yet. However, it’s clear that the Bengals front office is working hard to make sure that their cap room is sufficient enough to extend quarterback Joe Burrow, wideout Tee Higgins and linebacker Logan Wilson.

Hendrickson has been on a tear in the past few seasons with the Bengals, and may be one the most underrated players in the league.

In 2021, the two-time Pro Bowler had 14 sacks, three forced fumbles and 2.5 TFLs — all career highs.

Advanced Stats Display His Brilliance

Next Gen Stats announced him as the No. 1 disruptor in the league in 2021, with 79 QB pressures, a QBP rate of 19.4%, 45 hurries and five turnovers caused by pressures.

Last season, Hendrickson’s sack numbers dropped, but he was still elite. He recorded 24 QB hits, eight sacks, three forced fumbles and was named to the Pro Bowl.

His 22 sacks since the start of his first season with the Bengals are the eighth-most in the NFL during that time span.
