Christian Harris 2022 NFL Draft Profile

It feels like every single year there is at least one high-profile defender in the draft coming from Alabama. Last year was Patrick Surtain II, the year before was Trevon Diggs, before was Quinnen Williams. You get the idea. This year, the guy is Christian Harris. Harris in a lot of mocks has been a second-round prospect, but I am big on him this year. I loved the tape and I loved his combine (LB notes here). Check out our 2022 NFL Draft Profile on Christian Harris.

His NFL Combine performance was great. He ran well, running a 4.44 40-yard dash. During the drills, he looked very quick, fast feet and good hip movement. He is going to be a sponge when he gets into the NFL. Harris was a big winner at the combine this year.

Harris was destined to be a Linebacker at Alabama, especially after living with former Alabama LB Dylan Moses. He showed during the 2020 Championship run he will do whatever it takes to win, playing through a shoulder injury. Again, I go back to his hips and feet because they will be major strengths at the next level. Harris is also a great open-field tackler which always translates well into the NFL. Only 10 career sacks, but 5 of those came on the biggest stages, SEC Championships and College Football Playoff games. I think Harris has the speed and athletic ability to maybe make a move outside in the NFL as a weakside Linebacker. Definitely more of a speed rusher who can add one or two power moves once he bulks up a little and adds some muscle.

I say a move outside might be the right thing because his field awareness in coverage can lack at times. He showed in multiple games for the Crimson Tide this season, dropping into zone coverage just wasn’t his thing. The instincts aren’t there yet for him to be great right away in coverage, but I do believe they will come and come fast.

I LOVE Christian Harris. In my latest mock, I had him sneaking into the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Harris will add speed and leadership to any defense, and you never have to worry about him missing a tackle. As willing a tackler as there is in this class. He will likely land as an early second-round draft pick, but the team that does pick him will thank their lucky stars later on. I believe Harris will be a quality starter+ in the NFL.

Best fits: New York Jets, Tennessee Titans, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles
