Chris Simms ranks Will Anderson as fifth best EDGE rusher in his 2023 NFL Draft rankings

Chris Simms is no stranger to bad takes, and now he has given another one to laugh at. In Simms’ top-5 EDGE prospect list for the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft, he has Will Anderson Jr. ranked No. 5.

I am at a loss for words honestly. How do you rank a former Heisman Trophy candidate as 5th in your tier list? In his time with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Anderson accumulated 34.5 sacks in three years. Mind blown. That is almost 12 sacks a season, and Simms doesn’t have him ranked first?

Simms responded to the recent hate on his take yesterday on another episode of Pro Football Talk.

“I want to push back in a big way,” Simms said. “I don’t know what you could’ve watched to think that this was the first pick of the draft, there’s no way, I wouldn’t be shocked if he fell.”

Well, Chris, not a lot of people were speculating Anderson to be the No. 1 pick of this year’s draft. It’s the fact that you put him 5th in your EDGE rusher rankings.

Simms would later go on to defend his point even more by saying it’s just the hype train around Anderson.

“He goes to Alabama, they’re good, he’s really good, so he’s got to be the number one pick,” said Simms, sarcastically.

To put it in perspective more, Anderson led the entire nation in QB pressures in two out of his three years at Alabama. He leads the nation in sacks and tackles-for-loss once as well, and he still doesn’t deserve to be over guys like Lukas Van Ness or Will McDonald IV? Anderson has proven to the whole country that he deserves to be that top guy. Chris Simms somehow doesn’t agree. Braindead.
