WR Chris Conley Retires From The NFL After 10 Seasons

Chris Conley has decided to hang up his cleats after ten seasons in the NFL, his agent revealed Thursday.

Conley was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Conley was off to a nice start early in his career as a serviceable starter due to his athleticism, solid route running, and strong hands. He began to bounce around and become more of a journeyman wide receiver later in his career.

He played on the biggest stage once in his career for the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVlll. Now, he will retire and begin his surprising next chapter in life going back to school to become a filmmaker.

This retirement is one of the more interesting NFL player retirements in recent memory. Players all the time have to give up the sport they love due to age, injury, or even a talent drop-off. A lot of former players just enjoy time with their families after football or some become analysts and stay in the sports world. Conley is truly taking an interesting path by trying to learn the incredible skill of filmmaking in his retirement.

The former Georgia Bulldog will now be returning to his alma mater to begin his next chapter in life.

NFL Players in the Film World

This is not the first time an athlete, specifically a football player, has turned to the world of cinema after football. However, a lot of the time, these players have cameo roles where they play themselves. These cameos can be seen in shows like Ballers and The League, both of which deal with football.

Few former NFL players have extremely successful acting careers. One exception would be Carl Weathers, who is best known as Apollo Creed in the Rocky franchise. It is unclear yet if Conley will be learning to be behind the camera or just part of the on-set crew. Lastly, it is awesome to see former players be driven to accomplish more goals after their football careers. Who knows, one day maybe Chris Conley will be more known in the cinema world than as an NFL player!
