The Chiefs finally gave up on Clyde Edwards-Helaire. It’s actually kinda surprising the former first round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft lasted this long given his production. The former LSU product hasn’t been active for a single game this season and Kansas City is finally parting ways.
CEH actually broke the news himself. He wrote this message on social media regarding the news.
“Love ya KC!” Edwards-Helaire wrote. “A family I didn’t know I needed, y’all made a Kid from Baton Rouge dreams come true! To Chiefs Kingdom , its all love and the support I had in troubling times will forever be unmatched from you guys! With love!”
To close things out here, let’s take a walk down memory lane. While I admittedly liked CEH coming out of LSU, it was still outrageous that he got picked in the first round that year. A total bonehead mistake by Brett Veach (who somehow makes a lot of mistakes nobody calls him out for). No hindsight bias involved – I had CEH RB4 that year behind D’Andre Swift, JK Dobbins, and Cam Akers. Dobbins certainly should have been the best if the injuries didn’t kill him but Swift has since turned out to be a really good player. I likely would have taken Swift for anyone who is curious about my prior NFL Draft rankings that year. A lot of people are going to kill the Chiefs today. A lot of them have the fortune of hindsight bias. Not Trey…
Edwards-Helaire, 25, ran for 803 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie but it kept getting worse after that somehow. Who knows what’s next but this could be the end. Regardless of what happens, CEH will always have that run with LSU during the Joe Burrow title. That team was so much fun!
