Chicago Blackhawks waive Corey Perry during internal investigation

It has been a confusing, but yet curious time in the Chicago Blackhawks organization. With rumors swirling around veteran forward Corey Perry, the Blackhawks have waived Perry’s contract in the midst of an internal investigation, Blackhawks insider Charlie Roumeliotis was among the first to report the news Wednesday.

The Blackhawks released a team statement regarding Perry and his release.

“After an internal investigation, the Chicago Blackhawks have determined that Corey Perry has engaged in conduct that is unacceptable, and in violation both of the terms of his Standard Player’s Contract and the Blackhawks’ internal policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments. As such, Corey Perry has been placed on unconditional waivers. In the event Mr. Perry clears waivers, we intend to terminate his contract effective immediately.

Blackhawks general manager Rob Davidson raised suspicion around the scenario. Essentially deflecting any clear-cut answers surrounding Perry with anyone on the team or their family members. In doing so, this raised many red flags for the Chicago organization.

Davidson went straight to the point regarding the rumors surrounding Corey Perry and Blackhawks’ rookie sensation Connor Bedard‘s mom.

“I do want to be very clear on this one point: This does not involve any other players or their families and anyone that suggest otherwise is wildly inaccurate, and frankly, it’s disgusting,” he said.

The one thing that confuses me and I’m sure a lot of other people is that if it wasn’t about any other players or their families, why even bring it up in the first place? It makes it seem like that’s what it’s exactly about. I mean, Davidson brought it up as the first thing. Odd right?

“I think we went through the process as quickly as we could in order to run a responsible investigation,” Davidson said. “To be honest, over the last 24 hours, what’s gone on has been very disturbing and I feel like I’m wearing it. I’m carrying it. It’s tough to see.”
