Bears Fire Offensive Coordinator Shane Waldron

Chicago Bears fans are rejoicing today as their prayers are finally answered. According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Bears have officially canned their offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. He lasted less than 10 months in The Windy City. Chicago’s passing game coordinator, Thomas Brown, will take over as interim OC in Waldron’s place.

This wasn’t some spur-of-the-moment decision either, as Bears head coach Matt Eberflus admitted in a statement that he and the front office had been mulling it over for some time.

After evaluating our entire operation, I decided that it is in the best interest of our team to move in a different direction with the leadership of our offense,” Eberflus said, per ESPN. “This decision was well-thought-out, one that was conducted deliberately and respectfully. I would like to thank Shane for his efforts and wish him the best moving forward.”

The Bears Offense Is Terrible:

This firing shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to anyone, as the Bears’ offensive has been painful to watch these last couple of weeks. After starting 4-2, they have dropped three straight games and have scored 27 combined points over that span. Through 10 weeks, Chicago’s offense has averaged just 277.6 yards per game, which ranks 30th in the NFL.

Here are some other fun stats for you Bears fans: Chicago ranks 31st in yards per play, 31st in third downs, 30th in total yards, 30th in yards per pass, 28th in yards per carry and 24th in points scored. In other words, yikes! Chicago should consider themselves lucky to even have four wins, which they can thank their stout defense for.

I wouldn’t be too thrilled about the new guy, Thomas Brown. His biggest accomplishment thus far is being the offensive coordinator for the 2023 Carolina Panthers, who finished 2-15. Shocker that he got fired after that, huh?

We will see if Brown can bring any change to a recently dormant offense, and his first test is this Sunday when the Green Bay Packers come to Soldier Field.
